On Saturday and Sunday, June 6 and 7, Creative Expressions Dance Studio in Roscoe held their eighth annual dance recital. Entitled “I Believe,” the show consisted of twenty-five choreographed pieces and opened with the harmonic singing of The Star Spangled Banner by instructor Jamie Ward, student assistant Jackie Ellmauer and students Danielle Fredenberg and Taylor Lamerand. The dancers ranged in age from pre-school to adult. From tap to jazz each number seemed to outdo the next. Dance routines from the precocious stylings of the very young, such as “Candyman” to the simplicity of a duet, “Strangers Like Me,” performed by Erika Schmidt and Kaitlyn Haas are what audiences have come to look forward to over the years; each number precisely choreographed and unique in its appeal.
The final number – Thriller Bang Bang, which took the High Gold and High Intensity award at a recent competition, was so stunning in its ferocity, costuming and expertise that it’s little wonder the auditorium roared with approval.
Director/Producer/Choreographer Danel Engle combines the usual elements of dance with a refreshing creativity. She is joined in her efforts by Instructor/Choreographers Jamie Ward, Jaclyn Day, Annie Jones and Sarah Cocks. Student Assistants for this year’s recital were Jackie Ellmauer and Rebecca Banker.
