Community Chorus Resumes Rehearsals – 2/15/12
January 30, 2012 by The Catskill Chronicle
MONTICELLO, NY (January 30, 2012) – The Sullivan County Community Chorus under the direction of Kevin J. Giroux will resume rehearsals Wednesday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m.
Rehearsals will be at the First Church of Monticello Presbyterian on Jones Street in preparation for the
chorus’s 35th Annual Spring Concert to be performed at Immaculate Conception Church in Woodbourne on June 10, 2012.
Giroux has chosen “An American Salute!” as the title for this concert. The program will consist of many different musical styles chosen to show the American desire for proper government, and from homegrown poets and composers, to native music, from the yearning for a better life, to our armed forces, God, country, and from patriotism to Broadway.
Giroux is Choral Director at Tri-Valley Central School in Grahamsville, NY. Mr. Giroux’s other musical activities include solo adjudicator for NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association), Past President and Treasurer of the Sullivan County Music Educators Association and part-time church organist. A native of Plattsburgh, New York, Mr. Giroux received a Bachelors of Music Education from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and a Masters in Music Education from Ithaca College.
The Chorus welcomes all interested singers to attend their rehearsals. It is helpful if singers can read music. Rehearsals are open to all voice parts, and chorus auditions are not a requirement. Singers wishing to perform in the concert must regularly attend rehearsals, joining the chorus no later than March 21. Performances of the Sullivan County Community Chorus are made possible in part with funds from the Sullivan County Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.
Dues are $20 with a one-time $15 music deposit for those new to the chorus. Those wishing to sing in the Spring Concert are encouraged to arrive for the first rehearsal at 6:00 p.m. to sign in and receive packets of the concert music. For further information regarding rehearsal schedules, contact Lucille Horton at 845-794-7869.
