SLAC MEETING
The Senior Legislative Action Committee of Sullivan County welcomes Chair of the Sullivan County Legislature, Scott Samuelson as their guest speaker on Friday, May 25 at 10:00 a.m. There will also be a report on the Albany trip supporting a single-payer Health Bill in New York State: cost control and universal coverage for all our residents. SLAC, The Senior Legislative Action Council, PO Box 1065, South Fallsburg, NY, is affiliated with StateWide Senior Action Council. Please bring your dues ($10.00) and $22.00 for the 8th annual luncheon at the Eagle’s Nest on June 15. Checks should be payable to SLAC.

TAG SALE
The Rock Hill Business and Community Association is hosting a community-wide Tag Sale on Saturday, May 26 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Donate your unwanted items to the Rock Hill Business Association to be sold at the tag sale. Drop off your items at the tag sale location (at the cottage) and we will turn around and sell your stuff at our yard sale. All items must be dropped off prior to the tag sale at either of the designated drop off times: Thursday, May 24 from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. or Friday, May 25 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. One hundred percent of the proceeds raised from the tag sale will go towards this year’s Rock Hill Renaissance project. VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR GARDENING PROJECTS
Forestburgh Playhouse has received a Phase 1 Beautification Grant in the B Category from the Sullivan Renaissance and is looking for volunteers to assist with gardening. Volunteer days are Saturday, May 26 and Saturday, June 2 from 10:00 a.m. to noon for both days. Please bring your own garden implements: rakes, spades, trowels, and gloves. All levels of gardeners are welcome – enthusiasm counts for far more than botanical knowledge. Volunteers will be cleaning up the beds, planting the containers and planting annuals around the new fence. Call 845-794-2005 for more information.

ANNUAL MEMORIAL WEEKEND BAKE SALE
Baked goods will be on sale in front of the Yulan Fire Department’s firehouse in Eldred, NY on

FIREARM SAFETY COURSE
Home Firearm Safety Course on Saturday, June 2 from 9:30 am to 3:00 p.m. at the Kauneonga Lake Fire Hall. The cost of the class is $62.00. A hands-on pistol permit safety course from the National Rifle Association. You will learn basic firearms safety and will handle a variety of real handguns. ALAN STEINGART MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
Sunday, June 3 at 12:00 noon is registration for the 29th Annual Town of Fallsburg Lions Club Alan Steingart Memorial Golf Tournament at Tarry Brae Golf Course in South Fallsburg. The scramble start begins at 1:00 p.m. The fee is $95 per golfer and includes lunch, dinner, and prizes. A hole-in one features a car furnished by Robert Green in Monticello. Tired of spending $9.99 or more for each eBook you want to read? Learn about the your local library’s free eBook downloads. On Wednesday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. Marj Linko, will demonstrate this process at the Ethelbert B. Crawford Library in Monticello. The library’s eBooks are now compatible with the Kindle, as well as other e-readers. All books have a 21-day loan period, with no fines. The service is free, and all you will need is a valid library card and pin number in order to use this service. This program is free and open to the public.

THEATRE GALA
Forestburgh Theatre Arts Center Pre-Season Gala will be held on Saturday, June 9 from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. at the Playhouse. The evening will feature previews of the opening production of “Guys and Dolls” and other season tidbits. Catered by Mr. Willy’s and combined with the Town of Forestburgh’s 175th birthday, the Tavern at the Forestburgh Playhouse will be decorated with memorabilia from the last 175 years of Forestburgh history. LONG DISTANCE CAREGIVING
Have you called a parent or other relative living far away and found yourself worried about how they are caring for themselves? Long Distance Caregiving will provide current and future caregivers advice and resources to help care for a relative or friend who lives a distance away and may not have a primary caregiver living nearby. A program by the Caregiver Resource Center (funded by the NYS Office for the Aging) entitled Long Distance Caregiving will be presented at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Sullivan County (64 Ferndale-Loomis Road, Liberty) on Tuesday, June 12 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Participants will receive handout materials and home resources as part of their packets. Topics include: How will I know if help is needed? What can I really do from far away? Designating who does what. Making the most of a visit ~ including the doctor’s appointment. Documentation and Resources. There is a minimum of five participants required or class will be re-offered at a later date for Long Distance Caregiving. SHORT STORY DISCUSSION
“The Proxy Marriage,” a short story by Maile Meloy, will be discussed at the next meeting of the Great Books Discussion Program at the E.B. Crawford Public Library in Monticello. Copies of the story are available at the library or in the May 21, 2012 of The New Yorker magazine. This program will take place on Tuesday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. New members are welcome.

Sullivan County Master Gardener program will holding their annual plant and flower sale on Saturday, June 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Perennials, annuals, shrubs, and vegetables will all be available for purchase; a perfect opportunity to pick out a special something for your favorite gardener just in time for Father’s Day. Eat Smart New York nutrition program will be offering light refreshments for sale, including herbal iced tea, fruit & yogurt parfaits, and baked goods. CAREGIVER SPRING RENEWAL
The Alzheimer’s Association and Caregiver Resource Center are co-hosting a Caregiver Spring Renewal on Monday, June 18 from 12:00 -3:30 p.m. at the Frost Valley YMCA (2000 Frost Valley Road, Claryville, NY). The retreat is free for family caregivers assisting a loved one who is ill, aging or coping with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia. The event features a picnic lunch and several activities that encourage relaxation and fun for the caregivers. Respite services will also be available on-site. Registration by June 4 is required. GARDEN TOUR
The Fourth Annual SullivanArc Garden Tour will feature an exclusive look at private gardens in and around the Hamlet of Roscoe on Saturday, June 23. The guided bus tour will leave from the Tennanah Lake Golf and Tennis Club, where the tour ends with a complimentary wine and cheese reception. Hosted by SullivanArc, Sullivan Renaissance and Roscoe-Rockland Chamber of Commerce to benefit the SullivanArc Horticultural Program. Cost is $35 per person for the guided bus tour.
