August 16, 2011 by The Catskill Chronicle
SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY (August 16, 2011) – The U.S. Justice Department has launched a new section of its Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) website, http://www.ada.gov/aids.
To mark the one-year anniversary of the release of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, Persons with HIV and persons with AIDS are covered by the ADA, which gives federal civil rights protections to persons with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, and state and local government services.
The new web page provides important information and resources related to combating discrimination on the basis of HIV/AIDS. Learn more about the Justice Departments efforts to enforce the ADA on-line at www.ada.gov.
On July 6, The Justice Department announced that it has entered into a comprehensive agreement with the state of Delaware that will transform Delaware’s mental health system and resolve violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA and the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Olmstead v. L.C. afford individuals with disabilities the right to receive services in the most integrated settings appropriate to their needs, and today’s agreement will ensure individuals in Delaware can exercise that right.
