GALA Catskills – Continuing the Mission of The Day to be Gay Foundation First Event: “Chicago” Benefit Forestburgh Playhouse – August 20

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY (August 16, 2011) – In 2001, a group of Sullivan County, New York gay and lesbian residents founded The Day to Be Gay Foundation (DTBG). Lead for ten years by Kathy Rieser and David Knudsen and other community activists, DTBG made important contributions to the gay and lesbian community in the Catskills as well as the broader community in the Upper Delaware.
In May of this year, Ms. Rieser and Mr. Knudsen handed over the administration of the Foundation to a new Board of Directors which has decided to continue and expand the mission of the DTBG Foundation operating under a new name: The Gay and Lesbian Alliance of the Catskills – GALA Catskills.
GALA Catskills is wasting no time in planning and producing a diverse roster of fundraising events. The first GALA event is a benefit performance of the mega-Broadway hit: “Chicago” on Saturday, August 20 at the Forestburgh Playhouse to benefit GLBT/ Straight Alliances at area High Schools and Colleges. A Pre-performance buffet and show package is available for $60/person, or the show only at $45/person. All tickets include a $15 tax deductible contribution to GALA Catskills.
