Sullivan County Manager Issues Storm Update: Flood Warning Continues for the Beaverkill & Neversink Rivers
September 7, 2011 by The Catskill Chronicle
SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY (September 7, 2011) – Sullivan County Manager David Fanslau issued the following statement at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7: “Sullivan County is in the process of cleaning up roads and bridges, and assessing damage associated with the current storm.
“As of 1 PM, the Division of Public Works reported the following:
County Road closed: CR 163 Yankee Lake Road (Tree in wires – still waiting for O&R since called in at 7:00 a.m.)
The following County Road is passable: CR 164 Currently passable and it should be fully operational by the end of the day. (Serious wash-out near Bauernfeind Road has been repaired.)
There are a large number of bridges with trees and debris jammed under them. DPW has a crew with a crane truck removing as much as they can, although at some bridges DPW will have to wait for the water to go down further before DPW can remove the trees.
The Beaver Kill near Cooks Falls and the Neversink River above Bridgeville affecting Orange and Sullivan counties continues to be under a flood warning. Should flooding occur or continue in Sullivan County, residents and visitors are urged to visit the County website, http://www.co.sullivan.ny.us, for current news and information.”
