LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY (April 15, 2013) – SUNY Sullivan’s 22nd Annual Kite Festival and the 2nd Annual Derby Day Celebration are coming up on Saturday, May 4.
The 22nd Annual Kite
Festival will kick off at 10:00 a.m. on the front green of SUNY Sullivan’s campus. The first 200 children to arrive will receive free kites.
This year’s festivities will continue until 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon, and will feature a midway of unique craft and gift vendors and food tents.
There will be bouncy houses for the kids, and of course, a lot of high flying fun with kite demonstrations throughout the day.
Returning for his second year at the fest is Dan Brother – the popular local blues guitarist currently ranked #1 on ReverbNation in the Middletown, NY area.
You can also step inside and visit the Seelig Theatre for the Fisher Film Festival, also taking place on May 4.
The Fisher Film Festival, “A Workshop in Storytelling,” runs from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., and will feature work by students of SUNY Sullivan’s Media Arts program, local film makers, and a panel of industry professionals. This annual storytelling workshop is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the talent, dedication and artistic expression of students and local artisans.
Also on May 4, the SUNY Sullivan Foundation presents its 2nd Annual Kentucky Derby Celebration – this year at Bernie’s Holiday Restaurant in Rock Hill. For a donation of $65.00, attendees can enjoy authentic and delicious southern cuisine, refreshing mint juleps, take part in the Hat Contest and bid on Silent Auction items. The event will end with the live telecast of the 139th Kentucky Derby. The celebration begins at 4:30 p.m. and continues until 7:30 p.m.
Proceeds benefit the SUNY Sullivan Foundation. Reservations can be made by contacting Hillary Egeland at 845-434-5750, ext. 4377.
