GRAHAMSVILLE, NY (April 17, 2013) – The Time and the Valleys Museum in
Grahamsville is currently seeking guides for a new exhibition to open May 22. “Tunnels, Toil and Trouble: New York City’s Quest for Water and the Rondout-Neversink Story,” is a major new interactive exhibition on the history of New York City’s water supply system and the many towns removed because of the system.
Anyone interested in volunteering can join current volunteers for refreshments and information at a Volunteer Open House, on Saturday, May 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Community Room of the Daniel Pierce Library on State Route 55 in Grahamsville. They will learn more about being a guide in the Museum, the new exhibition, and all other volunteer needs.
“Men who worked building the tunnels and reservoirs; and family members of those who were forced to sell their lands, this is the chance to tell your story.” says Mary Inghrim, Volunteer Committee Chairperson. “Volunteer as a guide in the new exhibition and give visitors a firsthand view of this period in our history. You can walk visitors through the exhibition, or just sit down and talk, whatever is easiest and most comfortable for you.”
There are MANY benefits to volunteering at the museum, including a 10% discount in the Museum Shop, an invitation to a special yearly recognition event, gaining new skills, and meeting new people and making new friends. Volunteers can help one or two afternoons a month or more, whatever suits their lifestyle, as much or as little as they like. All information and training will be provided. No previous knowledge of history or museum experience is required, just a willingness to learn.
“We also have many other volunteer needs, in areas such as the museum shop, reception desk and offices.” according to Mary Inghrim. For more information on the volunteer open house, the many different volunteer positions, benefits and training, please call Mary Inghrim at 985-7700 or 985-2903.
Located at 332 Main Street in Grahamsville, the Museum will open for the season on Wednesday May 22 and will be open Thursday to Sunday, noon to 4:00 p.m. through October, and other times by appointment. Adult admission is $5, Children under 16 pay $2, and children under six are free. For more information call 845 985-7700 or go to timeandthevalleysmuseum.org.
