Dear Editor,
As a 4th semester nursing student, I feel that the article “31% Fail Out of Nursing Program at SCCC” does not show what is really going on in the nursing program.
Some students just don’t have what it takes to get through, and they need to spend a little more time practicing!
As a student who passed the first time around with the skills test, I find it appalling to think that these students couldn’t pass in three times!
The nursing program is hard for a reason. If it was easy, everyone would get in and everyone would make it through.
From the patient’s point of view, I would be terrified if I knew that I had a nurse who couldn’t pass a simple skills competency when given three chances! ,
The nursing program doesn’t fail people, people fail themselves out.
Instead of criticizing what happened to these students, why can’t everyone focus on the students who did all of their work, practiced hard and are still in the program?
