Dear Editor:
Indeed, this winter, Fallsburg-area residents have greatly regretted the fact that their library, located at 12 Railroad Plaza, South Fallsburg, since its inception, has been closed for an extended period of time.
Years ago, I’d proposed building a new facility in Old Falls, for instance, at the site currently occupied by Overlook Park. The centralized location would’ve been ideal, as would a wide picture window adjacent to the waterfalls that gave the area its name.
Now, however, as an alternative, permanent Fallsburg Library site, I propose the former Provident Bank building, Broadway, Woodridge.
Naturally, renovation would be required to convert the structure into a library, but besides being a beautiful building – consisting of a basement plus two stories – the former bank hosts a spacious, level parking lot on a main thoroughfare.
Let’s hope the present Fallsburg Library Board of Trustees, together with Town of Fallsburg Supervisor, Steve Vegliante, seriously consider my proposal.
