To the Editor:
Residents of Callicoon Center, Jeffersonville, North Branch and Youngsville have an unusual opportunity to express their views about the future of our community.
A comprehensive plan is being written. A few weeks ago a survey was mailed by the Town of Callicoon to property owners; the two page survey was a chance to describe likes and dislikes of the Town and to offer visions for the future. Unfortunately renters did not receive the survey. And equally unfortunate has been the lack of promotion of the entire process of writing a comprehensive plan. In Ellenville, over many months, elected officials opened the process, reaching out to hear what citizens had to say; this strategy built community support and cooperation.
Things are now a bit rushed in the Town of Callicoon. There may be only one public meeting about the plan before it is presented for a vote by the Board. Monday, April 26 at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall by the ball field in Jeffersonville, you can learn the results of the survey. And perhaps offer your own views, too. I hope I will see you there.
