To the Editor:
It offends me to see the the Syda Foundation have a press release for “donating to the school.” Please forgive me but I thought taxes were to take care of these needs in our schools. If the Syda paid taxes, then their donation would be something to call a press release for. But we all know that they do not pay their fair share of property taxes.
I pay over $3000 in school property taxes and I do not own a 1/100 of the land that the Syda now owns. Is this fair?
I believe it is time for the tax equity issue to come around again. If we all paid our fair share then we would not be in this economic freefall.

Mia:
Your complaint is NOT with the Syda foundation, it’s with the idiot legislators in Washington & Albany. We are all entitled to a break on school/property taxes via Military service, Star program etc…etc…if we are eligible. The SYDA is eligible for programs offered to organizations of their type and they apply for them……but the towns seem to suffer. Also if they had to pay full taxes on what they own, chances are they would leave and another (more undesirable) organization will buy the buildings and get the same if not more tax exempt status…..with what the U.S. Government gives away and loses to these organizations & religions they could give every U.S citizen better quality of life at half the taxes we pay………
