Dear Editor,
I just got home a little while ago from the 5th Annual Alice Kreiter Senior Citizen Prom 2012. What an amazing time we had!
It’s so hard to think of what to say first but let me try…
The kids from the Boys & Girls Club were absolutely wonderful. All but one were middle-school age, and let me say they worked like troopers! All evening long-waiting on tables, cleaning, smiling all the while. Never a complaint, never a cross word, never a negative. I know a lot of adults who could take a lesson or two from them.
Hats off to Barbi Neumann-Marty and Lisa Moore from the Boys & Girls Clubs, two of the most dedicated leaders working with kids you will find anywhere.
The seniors from our committee: tireless, strong, dedicated individuals – I respect and admire. They were Mom’s (Alice Kreiter’s) friends and now I am privileged to call them mine.
Thanks to Aileen Gunther for once again sharing her time with us – always there to support.
Hats off to Dan Teplesky, Monticello School District Superintendent, who not only came but rolled up his sleeves and worked side-by-side with those kids until every last dessert was served. Way to set an example Dan.
Our good pal Carol Montana from The Catskill Chronicle and our buddy (her husband) Ken Walter for once again joining us. Carol was busy all night-taking pictures and more pictures. Thanks Carol for your unfailing commitment to covering events that may seem small but are a pretty big deal to others.
Pete Tweed and his lovely wife Crystal – you will never find a better friend to the seniors than Pete.
To Eric Bressi, Elvis Lost Brother, I just have one thing to say “Thank you, thank you very much…”
Wonderful food catered by some great folks – thanks to the guys from Monticello Meat Market.
Thanks to the Monticello Fire Dept and especially Wayne VanderMeulen who was on duty today and was a more than gracious host.
Finally, thank you to my family. My sister Ellen Neumann, who can always be seen at the event with camera in hand, snapping away. She also bakes her heart out during the year for all of our bake sales.
My brother Peter for always being there with me to honor Mom’s memory. My niece Geri who was by my side all night until the broom was pushed across the floor for the last time.
My younger nieces EllenRose, Erin and Sofia, Alice Kreiter’s great granddaughters. Gram would have been so proud of them – she always was.
So many people involved in creating a successful event. Please know if you were not mentioned here, you will never be forgotten in my heart.
Date and theme already set for next year.
Love you all for caring about our community, and doing so much to show it. So happy and proud to call Monticello my home.
