KAUNEONGA LAKE – “It’s just a rush, you’re out there going as fast as you can, and the fact that it costs millions,” said Charlie Houghtaling of Parksville, when asked what it’s like to run his 300-plus horsepower Chevy Monte Carlo SS street stocker on the short track at Bethel Motor Speedway.
Nothing like a little stocker stocker humor to brighten up the pits before a race!
According to the rules governing the street stock division at the local oval asphalt track, you can race any American-built full body passenger car (1960 or newer), but no Jeeps, 4WD, station wagon family haulers, trucks or convertibles.
Engines have a 358 cid limit and must remain stock as manufactured. A four post (6 pint) roll cage is mandatory, as is a racing style aluminum seat, equipped with seat belts and harness.
