We are back from our trip almost two weeks now. These past two weeks have been busy ones, especially for Liz. Besides being busy contacting those we met on the trip, she has been sending information about the Light up the Delaware River Party to as many of the media as she can reach.
This week, Liz, Amanda Halloran and I met Sandy Long, reporter for The River Reporter, at the gazebo in Narrowsburg to talk about our trip and the upcoming Light up the Delaware River Party on September 6. Her article, River party to light the Delaware Basin, appears in this week’s River Reporter.
All in all it’s been a busy week in Sullivan County for environmental issues, be they national in scope such as gas drilling and hydro-fracturing, or closer to home as in the concerns surrounding casino gambling in Sullivan County. On an immediate individual basis, too, is the cause of health care reform. But, whether national, local or personal, people are making their voices heard when it comes to their thoughts and opinions on these matters. This is wonderful. This is how democracy works.
So, with just about a week to go, we look forward to being a part of the Light Up the Delaware River Party celebration on September 6. Environmental stewardship is one of the most important commitments anyone can make, and this one should be a lot of fun for everyone. Party, have a great time celebrating the Labor Day weekend along the Delaware River, then on Sunday, at 7 p.m. pour a cup or glass of water into the Delaware and at 7:30 p.m. light a candle. Take a photo of your group and send it to Liz Bucar at ljbucar@earthlink.net or Leni Santoro at leni5s@yahoo.com .
We will take all the photos we receive and plot them on a gigantic map of the Delaware River (from Pennsylvania to Hancock, NY). We will then bring the map and and the photos to the DRBC Hearing on September 23.
