POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Monticello High School junior baseball player, Bobby Wagner of Mongaup Valley made history on Sunday, June 27, when he became the first Monticello High School player to earn a berth on the Hudson Valley’s Empire State Baseball
Wagner was named to the Hudson Valley team Sunday afternoon, after a tryout session held at Marist College earlier in the day. The Hudson Valley team is made up of 18 rising junior players from Dutchess, Rockland, Westchester, Putnam, Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties.
Hudson Valley baseball coach Steve Greller announced the roster of 18 players who will compete from July 22-24th in Buffalo.
“It’s a great honor for Bobby and for our program,” Monticello head coach Mike Marra said. “If any one player represents the face of our program, it’s Bobby.” “ He works extremely hard all year at his game.”
“He’s in the weight room in the off-season, in the gym in the winter working on his speed and agility, he works at our youth camp with the Little Leaguers giving back to his community and he comes to play every game doing whatever we ask him to do to win a game.”
Wagner becomes only the second player from Sullivan County to participate on the Empire State Games baseball team (Evan Kirsch, Liberty in 2008).
