MONTICELLO, NY – The Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop, the longest running community theatre in Sullivan County, celebrated its 60th anniversary with an elegant champagne brunch at Mr. Willy’s Restaurant in Monticello.
The guest of honor for the event, which was held on Sunday, July 18, was Barbara Newberg, who, along with Sunna Rausch, founded the company in 1950.
Mrs. Newberg’s family, members of the Workshop, and many theatre lovers enjoyed a moving Powerpoint presentation of Barbara Newberg’s theatrical history with the company.
Jack Leshner, a workshop member and actor, and Lori Schneider-Wendt, actress, director and former president of the group, regaled the company with poignant stories about their Workshop experiences with Mrs. Newberg.
Two musical numbers from the Workshop’s August show, “Little Shoppe of Horrors” were performed by Abby Smassanow, Ebony Isaac and Jennifer Lemitelamy.
The afternoon festivities ended with a standing ovation and a champagne toast presented by the honoree’s son, Marvin Newberg.
