LIVINGSTON MANOR – While angels may dance on the head of a pin, on Sunday afternoon 14 exhibition skaters performed magic by tripping to the light fantastic on shimmering crystals of ice at the Walter Seeley Memorial Skating Rink.
The skaters just managed to beat a gloomy weather forecast, as the final performers completed their routines while a freezing mix of wintery precipitation descended on the valley.
But that didn’t deter scores of kids and a few adults from braving the now nasty elements to compete for Olympic-style medals during races in seven age brackets, perhaps inspired to future glory by the exhibition skaters.
The popular skating exhibition always takes center-rink as the highlight of the Annual Ice Carnival, and the 2010 carnival on ice was no exception as it featured nationally and regionally ranked skaters from Ice Time in Newburg, the Skating Club of Boston, and the New York Metropolitan Area.

Joelle Forte returned to the ice again, drawing the curtain on this year’s exhibition skating as she performed to the music of Cirque du Soleil’s “O.” A senior at Fordham University, the 23-year old skater is majoring in psychology. Since first putting on skates at the age of four, Forte has been recognized a four-time North Atlantic Regional Champion, was honored as the 2009 Eastern Sectional Champion, and is a competitor at the national level in women’s figure skating.
The two youngest exhibition skaters, Lindsey Stevenson and Isabelle Dost are both 11-year olds who train at the Skating Club of Boston under the guidance of coaches Amanda Farkas, Mark Mitchell and Peter Johannson.
