Monticello Youth Committee Seeks Help to Show Free Movies
February 14, 2014 by The Catskill Chronicle
MONTICELLO, NY (February 14, 2014) – For the benefit of Monticello youth and the community, the Youth Committee of the Monticello Interfaith Council
aspires to show free PG and PG-13 movies at the Ted Stroebele Recreation Center—with a Friday evening showing and a Sunday afternoon double-feature showing each month beginning on Friday, March 14.
The Youth Committee needs $1200 to make regular movie showings a reality. This will cover the cost of a year-long movie licensing fee and a projector. Sullivan Renaissance has generously provided a challenge grant of $250, but the Committee still needs $950 to meet its goal
At last fall’s Youth Speak Out event, co-sponsored by the Youth Committee of the Monticello Interfaith Council and the Sullivan County NAACP, area youth were asked what activities they wanted to see in Monticello. Many mentioned a community movie night. There is no movie theater in Monticello, and the Youth Committee believes in the importance of offering affordable entertainment in a safe space for young people in junior and senior high school.
Donations can be made by cash or check, payable to the Monticello Interfaith Council and mailed to St. John’s Episcopal Church (attention: Monticello Interfaith Council), PO Box 107, Monticello NY 12701. In-kind donations and contributions of time are also appreciated.
The Youth Committee of the Monticello Interfaith Council is working to build a more positive environment for area youth and greatly appreciates support from area businesses, community organizations and individuals.
