Fall Winter & Spring Programs at Nesin Cultural Arts

MONTICELLO, NY (September 27, 2015) – Nesin Cultural Arts, which now serves  several hundred students, has Printannounced its schedule of adult and student classes for the fall, winter and spring. Everything from an art class at the Basha Kill to dance and music classes are being offered. For general information contact Ann Trombley at: 845-796-3318 or e-mail ann@nesinculturalarts.org.

A series of adult painting classes based on the landscape of the Basha Kill wetland will be taught by Laurie Kilgore of Kilgore Artistry. Laurie Kilgore, in collaboration with Nesin Cultural Arts, is the recipient of a grant from the Puffin Foundation for this project. There are three classes. Class one is September 30th from 6 to 7:30pm at the Nesin Theatre at 22 St. John Street in Monticello. Class two at the Basha Kill on October 4th from 1:30 to 4pm is followed by a wine tasting at the Basha Kill Winery. Class three is at the Nesin Theatre on October 7th from 6 to 7:30pm. The Children’s Art classes are for students in grades K-5. They will meet Wednesdays beginning October 7th from 4 to 5:30pm at the Nesin Theatre. Students will create projects in painting, drawing, sculpture and mixed media, while learning about artists and gaining appreciation skills. The Drawing, Painting and Mixed Media classes are for grades 6-10. They will meet Tuesdays beginning October 6th from 5 to 6:30pm at the Nesin Theatre. Be sure to bring a smock or old shirt. Students will learn different techniques while utilizing a sketchbook to work out their ideas. Due to a grant from the Puffin Foundation, there will also be a special class on October 3rd from Noon to 2 pm at the Basha Kill. Classical Modern Dance classes are for grades 5 -10. They meet Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:15 am at the Nesin Theatre beginning October 3rd. Students will learn classical modern dance based on the styles of Martha Graham and Mary Anthony culminating with performances in April and December. Classical Creative Dance classes are for grades K-5. They are held Saturdays beginning October 3rd at the Nesin Theatre. Beginner techniques will emphasize movement, shapes and bringing choreography to music. Performances will be held in April and December. Required dress is black leotard and black tights. The Young Children’s Chorus for grades K-5 meets at the Nesin Theatre Saturdays beginning October 3rd from 9:30 to 10:15am. The Treble Makers Chorus for grades 6-10 meets at the Nesin Theatre Saturdays beginning October 3rd from 10:30 to 11:30. Meet new friends while singing on stage! Thanks to a grant from the Sullivan County Youth Bureau, the $40 deposit has been waived. There is a $15 music deposit. Contact Director Amy Phillips at: (917) 693-5186 or mtaaphillips@gmail.com.
