SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY (May 5, 2014) – Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C – Mt. Hope) has secured two grants of $50,000 each for both the Village of Liberty and the Town of Lumberland.
The Village of Liberty has been awarded $50,000 in funding from the Municipal Facilities Program to provide for necessary upgrades to assist Village officials in the event of a public emergency, including a backup generator for Village Hall, emergency supplies, and mobile light towers at critical Village intersections in the event of a power outage.
“The Village of Liberty is grateful for Senator Bonacic’s support for our efforts to update Village Hall and make it a true emergency response center for our community,” said Mayor Daniel Ratner. “Twice in very recent history, Village Hall became a center of assistance for many residents in the Village of Liberty and even beyond, and with the funding the Senator is bringing to our community, we can make much-needed improvements that will allow us to be better equipped and prepared to come to the aid of our residents and keep them safe and healthy during times of crisis.”
“I am pleased to help the Village of Liberty obtain this grant to make these important improvements to their Village Hall, and enable village officials to be as prepared as they can be in the event of an emergency,” said Senator Bonacic.
The Town of Lumberland has also been awarded $50,000 in funding from the Municipal Facilities Program. The grant will go towards repairing deteriorating sidewalks and fence railings around the Thomas F. Hill Municipal building, creating a safer path for residents and workers.
"The Town of Lumberland is most appreciative of this grant money which will go towards the immediate safety needs of the Thomas F. Hill Municipal building," said Town Supervisor Nadia Rajsz. "Besides the deteriorating sidewalks, we will be replacing the fence railings which are also in need of repair. Thank you, Senator Bonacic, for your continued support of our town and being such a great advocate for our area."
“The safety of our residents is always a top priority,” said Senator Bonacic, “and for this reason, I am pleased to be a part of securing this funding for the Town of Lumberland.”
