WASHINGTON, DC (January 12, 2015) – Congressman Chris Gibson (NY-19) has announced the House passage of the Hire More Heroes Act, a bill he co-authored to boost employment among veterans while providing relief to small business owners.
The bipartisan legislation passed the House January 6, the first day of the 114th Congress. It allows businesses to hire veterans without having them count as full-time employees under the Affordable Care Act.
Under current law, companies with 50 or more full-time workers must provide health insurance for their employees. Veterans already receive health benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs or Department of Defense.
“This is common-sense legislation that makes it easier for the men and women of our Armed Forces to find a job following their service to the country, especially in rural regions like Upstate New York,” said Congressman Gibson.
“Our bill not only incentivizes businesses to hire veterans, it brings some relief to business owners who might be struggling with new expenses associated with the Affordable Care Act.”
