HURLEYVILLE, NY (November 30, 2014) – Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop continues its 2014 Season with a family friendly production of “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play,” which runs from December 12 – 14.
Magical, fresh and inventive, “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” transposes the cinematic classic (and holiday television tradition) to the theatre by staging the story as if it was a live radio broadcast in front of a studio audience. Ten actors perform the voices of dozens of characters while creating foley sound effects (no electronics).
Local talent includes Ed Berens, Sally Gladden, Oliver King, Ellen Pavloff, Mekayla Perneszi, Jeremy Rudnick, Harold Tighe, Mike Wheaton and Thunder Country’s Mike Sakell. Piano accompanist is Leon Hilfstein and SFX director is Jim Schmidt. As in the movie, everyman George Bailey must learn that “no man is a failure who has friends” (and a little divine intervention), when he must face off against local robber baron (and all around curmudgeon) Henry F. Potter. It’s a surefire reminder of what this season is all about.
The play is adapted from the film “It’s a Wonderful Life,” directed by Frank Capra starring actors Donna Reed and James Stewart and premiered at the Globe Theatre in New York on December 20, 1946.
SCDW is inviting families, neighbors and friends to celebrate the spirit of the holiday season and come see this heartwarming play. $10 ticket general seating at the Sullivan County Cultural Center (formerly the Sullivan County Museum), 265 Main Street, Hurleyville, NY. Friday night special: Bring an unwrapped new toy for “Toys for Tots” and receive $5 off. Coffee and desserts are included.
