HURLEYVILLE, NY (November 3, 2015) – Bethel Theatre Works brings you into the Catskills famous hotel era with an all new “Vaudeville in the Catskills-Swings into the Sixties!” Performances are November 6 & 7 at 7:00 p.m. and November 8 at 2:00 p.m., at the Sullivan County Museum & Cultural Center, 265 Main Street, Hurleyville.
Vaudeville in the Catskills celebrates the Borscht Belt and presents entertainment as it occurred throughout the Catskills rich history. During the 1960’s, resorts like Grossingers, Kutshers, The Concord and The Nevele all continued to book big name entertainment. It was a time when a whole new generation started surfacing and the music certainly reflected it. From Folk Rock to R&B and Soul, to Pop and Progressive Rock & Roll.
Legendary Entertainers being featured in this year’s 1960’s revue are: Jackie Mason [& Emcee] (Allen Frishman), Peggy Lee (Terri Hall), Sonny & Cher (Leon Hilfstein & Teri Paris), Elvis Presley (Joe Kavanaugh), Jay Black [Jay & The Americans] (Rich Lally), original Catskill Hotel Entertainers: Chuck James (Himself-Raleigh, Tamarack), Jeff Krolick (Himself-Nevele) and Jackie Horner (Herself-Grossingers); Comedian: Jo Anne Worley (Teri Paris) and Dance Sensation: Alluring Ahlena (Lorrie Blank-Frishman). And maybe even Ol’ Blue Eyes himself. Accompanying the performers is the live House-Band: Leon & The Moonlighters (Leon Hilfstein-Piano, Larry Ravdin-Sax and Bobby Cordani-Drums).
Production Support include; Director: Victoria V. Leighton, Assistant: Fran Schiff, Graphic Artist: Ann Finneran, Party Master, Tuxedo Junction Fine Art, Cobalt Studios.
The show is sponsored by The Sullivan County Historical Society, and suggested admission: $20, includes hors d’ oeuvres & desserts. Vaudeville in the Catskills is made possible with funds from the 2015 Arts for Sullivan Decentralization Program, administered by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.
