Twice Divorced – By Grayce Goin
Dear Twice Divorced,
My husband and I have been separated for three years. Although there are no plans to reconcile, we remain close friends. Last year he lost his job of 20 years, and prospects don’t look promising at the moment. His COBRA coverage will be ending soon. Would I be setting myself up for any legal problems if I add him to my health insurance coverage?
Trying to Help
Dear Trying,
I believe that as long as you are legally married you can add him to your insurance. Of course, you will have to list him with a separate address and this may raise some red flags. I suggest you speak with your human resources or benefits manager, as this is the person who should have the best understanding of your company’s contract with the insurance provider.
Good luck and,
Be Well
