Twice Divorced by Grayce Goin
Dear Twice Divorced,
What is going on? Why didn’t everyone know that Komen was paying for abortions from the money we donated for cancer research – is this legal how could they get away with it? Can we get our money back?
Seething mad
Dear Seething,
STOP right there – Komen has never funded abortions – only cancer screenings.
Planned Parenthood performed over 170,000 mammograms last year alone, along with pap smears and other tests impacting women’s health.
In fact, less than 3% of the services provided by PP involve abortions, and that funding comes from select private sources.
For tens of thousands of American women, PP is their only source of health care.
The Komen line that they “don’t want to fund an organization that is under investigation” is absolute nonsense! PP has been under investigation by one state, or federal group or another for 20 years.
This is purely political to get the anti-abortion group stirred up for the coming general election.
While new donations have almost made up for the $700,000 denied by Komen, that will only cover this year – PP will need new funding every year from now on.
These tests save lives. I have already notified Komen that any money I would normally have contributed by sponsoring individuals in the Walks and Races for Life will now all go to Planned Parenthood. Won’t you join me?
It is a matter of life and death.
Be Well
Editor’s note: It was reported shortly after this letter was submitted that the Susan B. Komen Foundation rescinded its decision to defund Planned Parenthood. The staff of The Catskill Chronicle learned, however that the Komen Foundation has not fully reversed the decision. The Catskill Chronicle encourages your continued support for cancer research, no matter which form it takes.
