Twice Divorced – By Grayce Goin
Dear Twice Divorced –
My 43 yr old husband just had his recent annual physical. His blood pressure was high enough that his doctor wrote him a prescription for medication. He did some research on the medication and decided he wasn’t going to take it. I almost flipped out when he told me this. We have three kids ranging in age from 10 to 15 years old. And they need their dad!
I’m tempted to fill the script and sneak it into his food. That’s the only thing I can think of to keep him around. What do you think?,
Lost in Lodi
Dear Lost,
Never, under any circumstances, would I recommend hiding or sneaking medication into another person’s food. The potential consequences could be lethal. He could be away from home and have an allergic reaction to the medications, or be in an accident, or have some other problem that lands him in the hospital, and the treating physicians will not know what is in his system.
I suggest that you calmly approach him, telling him you would like to understand his reasoning. If you still do not agree with his decision, suggest that you both meet with his doctor to discuss potential dietary and life-style changes that can be implemented – probably to the benefit of the entire family.
However this works out, you must keep in mind that your husband is an adult who is entitled to make his own health-care decisions without anyone doing an end run on him.
Be well.
